Pilot Project
The Senior Citizen Retreat Centre (SCRC) Ulu Yam pilot project, initiated by the Pertubuhan Pembangunan Kemasyarakatan Sikh Malaysia (PPKSM), is a pioneering venture aimed at enhancing the quality of life for elderly members of the Sikh community. Located in the serene setting of Kampung Sungai Chik, Ulu Yam, just a short distance from the Gurdwara Sahib Baba Vir Singh, the project seeks to integrate comfortable living with community and spiritual connectivity.
The pilot project encompasses a comprehensive facility designed to cater to the unique needs of senior citizens. It features custom-designed living quarters, communal spaces that encourage social interaction, and health-oriented facilities tailored to older adults. Key components of the pilot include accessible landscaping, modernized roofing for enhanced safety and comfort, and a complete overhaul of the electrical and plumbing systems to meet current standards and ensure the wellbeing of its residents.
A significant focus of the SCRC pilot project is to foster an inclusive and engaging environment. This is achieved through the creation of a wheelchair-friendly vegetable garden that allows residents to engage in gardening as a form of physical and mental activity, contributing to both the community and their personal well-being. Additionally, the facility includes a compost shed to promote sustainability practices within the center.
Security is also a top priority, with the installation of a robust security fence around the property to ensure a safe and secure environment for the residents. Overall, the SCRC pilot project represents a thoughtful integration of accommodation, health care, and community activities, all set within a secure and nurturing environment designed to improve the lives of senior citizens.
